FEAR Swim lessons
Learn to swim
Our goal is to overcome the barriers to swimming, and to create a future where everyone can benefit from the physical, psychological and social joys that swimming brings!
Our mission…
In addition to our family swim events, we want to give individuals the opportunity to learn to swim. From physical development to social and emotional confidence, swimming is a vehicle to change lives for the better. We believe that people within the FEAR community deserve the opportunity to learn to swim, a skill that many miss out on because of health and difficulties, barriers and access. As a result, our new mission is to get people swimming, through providing 6 months of weekly swimming lessons.
We will work in partnership with local pools and qualified swim instructors to create this opportunity; providing inclusive, accessible and engaging swimming lessons.
Depending on your availability, the pool timetable and swimming teachers, these lessons will either be 1:1 or small group lessons.
Demand for our lessons is expected to be high. As a result, there will be a waitlist but we will keep you updated as much as possible.
On average, in England, the cost of 6 months worth of swimming lessons can range between £250-£500. FEAR will cover the majority of the costs, but ask for a contribution of £80 (£3 a lesson). This will cover a minimum of 26 swim lessons.
These lessons are solely for children, and adults, who rely on artificial nutrition (enteral or intravenous), or who are receiving long term IV treatments via a central line (Hickman/PICC) i.e chemotherapy or dialysis. These lessons are for the above individuals who cannot currently swim or need more dedicated attention.
How it works…
If you feel you, or your child, will benefit from our swimming lessons, please fill in the request form below.
Please note, you will need to get consent from your medical team and email over a letter to confirm that the medical team are happy for you/your child to participate in swimming lessons. This can be done after you have filled in a request form. There is no rush, but must be shared with FEAR before your lessons begin.
Once you have completed the form, FEAR will get in touch with local pools in your area to arrange swimming lessons. We will keep you updated as to our progress.
